The Apple Store at Stockton and Market/Ellis remained closed after 2 PM in preparation for the 6 PM debute of the iPhone.

Numbers 1 and 2 in line, who said they had been there since 6 AM Thursday.

Number 1 being interviewed.

By 4:30, the line already reached from the store entrance down Stockton...

along O'Farrell...

...and around onto Powell.

Some were just there for some attention, promotion, recreation...

...or to sell their spots.

A few minutes before 6:00, the a whole bunch of Apple employees marched down the street and made a noisy entrance before lining up on the stairs inside the store.

Some of the Apple people seemed pretty stressed out.

Arms raised in victory, one of the first customers enters.

First one out shows off his iPhone packaging.
